Our Sustainability department had the opportunity to study SMUD’s ways last week at their Sacramento Building. SMUD’s Energy Education & Technology Center (E&TC) holds classes throughout the year for both residential and non-residential design and construction, with some offering AIA credits. SMUD’s E&TC provides instruction and education on a wide variety of energy-related topics, including solar energy systems, home energy efficiency measures and advanced energy concepts for energy professionals. The workshop our sustainability department attended was “Changes in the 2016 Title 24 Energy Code.” After the class they were invited to walk around the SMUD Service Center which earned a LEED Platinum Certification for Existing Building. The building showcases interactive exhibits covering topics such as Energy Smart home, Energy Efficient Light Sources, Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting and Lighting Controls and Sensors.
