Toyota Motor North America Inc. – Logistical Services
We are currently providing planning and design through construction phase services for this project. The new 166,500 square foot facility includes three structures dedicated to processing imports at the Port of Long Beach, CA. The structures will house Toyota’s administrative areas, logistical services as well as the vehicle distribution center. The 120-plus acre site will also include a fuel cell that will deliver all of the building’s electrical requirements from renewable sources. The fuel cell will also create hydrogen to power both Toyota’s hydrogen fuel cell car and short-haul tractor trailer. It will be the world’s first megawatt-scale, carbonate fuel cell power generation plant, with a hydrogen fueling station.
In addition to vehicle processing and a fuel island it will also house a two-lane car wash. This processing facility will also feature employee breakrooms, an authorization area, a parts receiving center, offices, conference rooms, a nurse station and restrooms. Once complete, this project which will enhance the capabilities of Toyota’s Pier B facilities into an efficient and larger vehicle processing facility as they import increasingly larger volumes of vehicles from Japan each year. The new facility also allows Toyota to comply with the Port’s strict emission program for truck transport and buildings and will help the company meet those standards with energy efficient design. The project is aiming to achieve LEED Gold certification.
