Building 1A CT Replacement

UCI Health

Replacing a failing CT machine in a basement radiology room is rarely straightforward, with specialized equipment and constrained space. This remodel for UC Irvine Health leveraged a necessary replacement into an opportunity to rethink the room entirely, enlarging the existing footprint, addeding floor trenching to accommodate new infrastructure, refreshing finishes and casework, and incorporating required lead modifications. A faux skylight in the new ceiling brings the suggestion of natural light into a space that has none. Equipment planning was rigorous: multiple CT models were test-fit against the redesigned space to confirm compatibility before commitments were made, and potential life safety and accessibility upgrades were evaluated as part of the scope.

The project ran on an aggressive schedule, and Lionakis was on site multiple times a month to resolve construction questions in real time, processing ACDs and NMAs quickly to keep pace with existing conditions as they were uncovered.
