Kaiser Permanente Modesto 7-Bay Emergency Department Expansion

Kaiser Permanente

The Kaiser Permanente Modesto Emergency Department expansion activated approximately 2,000 square feet of adjacent shell space on the hospital's first floor to add a stand-alone Observation Unit and six Observation Treatment Bays, with additional support spaces extending into the basement below and increasing capacity without disrupting the department's ability to serve patients throughout construction. Subject to Office of Statewide Health Planning & Development (OSHPD) review, a primary focus was on speed of delivery and design within budget. Kaiser Permanente and the Contractor sought creative approaches from the design team to accelerate both the design process and OSHPD-1 review and permitting, including early integration of OSHPD to facilitate timely approvals.
