Liberty Public Market

Blue Bridge Hospitality

The Liberty Public Market, San Diego's first food hall, occupies 25,000 square feet of Liberty Station's storied Naval campus, a space that once fed recruits now reimagined as a gathering place for nearly 30 local artisans, vendors, and makers.

obrARCHITECTURE, A Lionakis Company, transformed the former commissary and reflection garden into a 21st century hub for culinary innovation. Handcrafted signs hang from exposed beam ceilings; industrial-inspired lights line the hallways; and hand-painted murals tracing a timeline of U.S. Naval history give the space a sense of place.

The vendor mix spans a wide range, including fresh produce and seafood, beer, wine and specialty cocktails, desserts and pastries, and pasta. A test kitchen, along with spaces for pop-up dining, arts and crafts, and education-driven events provide ample opportunity for creativity and connection. The Mess Hall, a full-service in-market restaurant, neighbors the array of vendors and is located where Naval recruits once enjoyed their meals. Outside, a 3,000 square foot dog-friendly patio shaded by olive trees and scattered with Adirondack chairs and picnic tables completes a destination that feels as much like a neighborhood as a market.
