Mira Loma High School Science Building

San Juan Unified School District

Supporting Mira Loma High School’s nationally ranked Science Olympiad team and prestigious International Baccalaureate program, the new Science Building transforms science education through thoughtful design and cutting-edge technology. The two-story facility houses 10 state-of-the-art laboratories organized around a "science on display" philosophy, with learning made visible and interactive throughout. An interior commons with amphitheater seating and a rooftop outdoor learning patio extend the building's reach beyond the classroom, serving both daily academic life and broader community gatherings.

Delivered as a Design-Build project, the building targets Net Zero Energy through rooftop and carport photovoltaics. Community engagement shaped the process as much as the program, and virtual reality demonstrations allowed neighboring residents to clearly see how the new two-story building would sit within their historic 1960s campus while respecting the surrounding neighborhood's character.
