Pacific Sky School
Del Mar Union School District
Sited along a canyon edge, this new 450-student K-6 school for Del Mar Union School District was designed to open toward the landscape rather than turn away from it, with concrete masonry walls, exposed heavy timber structure, and generous glazing chosen as much for durability and functionality as for their ability to complement the openness of the site and natural canyon connection. All buildings are single story, scaled to minimize impact on canyon views for the surrounding neighborhood.
The educational vision is equally open, uniting all classrooms and learning components within a single interconnected building. Circulation spaces are designed as extensions of the learning environment, supporting a culture where learning happens everywhere. The Innovation Center departs entirely from the traditional multi-use room and library model. Flexible and open, it accommodates robotics, computing, small and large presentation areas, and reading nooks, with an enclosed theater stage that can meet full lighting and acoustic requirements for performances. A Central Kitchen facility completes the program.
