Powell-Focht Hall Bioengineering Lab Renovation

University of California, San Diego

The Powell-Focht Bioengineering Hall at UC San Diego was designed for wet lab operations from the start, but shortly after opening, a portion of the basement level was converted to office use. This renovation converted approximately 3,100 square feet back to its intended purpose. The south wing of the basement level was reconfigured into wet lab suites, a specialized tissue culture room, and a flexible maker space, all of which are supported with cold storage, gas closets, restrooms, and support areas. Critical infrastructure improvements included new ductwork, lab gas piping, plumbing, electrical panels, and Title 24-compliant lighting throughout.
