Transforming retail space into a fully licensed infusion center is as much a regulatory challenge as a design one. This 4,600 square foot OSHPD-3 Infusion Center and 2,100 square foot pharmacy, carved from existing medical office space within a community retail center, navigated both with careful planning and a clear patient-centered vision.

The conversion unfolded in two phases: infusion services relocated into the new space first, allowing the existing area to be converted into laboratory and pharmacy functions without interrupting patient care. A retail shell offers limited access to natural light, so skylights were integrated to draw daylight deep into the interior. Custom wall graphics and a spa-like aesthetic create an environment calibrated for patients who spend extended periods in treatment.

Regulatory rigor ran alongside the design process from the start. Virtual models validated nurse station sightlines and confirmed required visibility to all patient bays before a single wall went up. The result was California Department of Public Health (CDPH) licensing achieved on the first review with no corrections required, an outcome that reflects the thoroughness of the coordination as much as the quality of the design.
