Wednesday, Lionakis was invited to attend the New Sylvan Middle School construction site for their “Topping Off” ceremony to witness a large steel beam being placed on top of the building. A tree was also attached to the beam, which apparently is a tradition to honor the materials used in construction, the trees that have been displaced in the construction process and lastly as a measure of good luck. The construction team also walked around with sharpie markers so that anyone in attendance could sign their name on the beam. The tree will be planted somewhere on the site once construction is complete. Check out the video of the beam being placed here.
