Laguna Ridge East Elementary School (a temporary name), located in Elk Grove Unified School District, has just passed a milestone–The Board of Trustees’ approval for Schematic Design. The project, an 850 student elementary school, is based on the District’s new Educational Specifications and will become a prototype for new elementary schools in the District. A robust group of stakeholders worked together (exclusively in virtual meetings) to provide guidance to the design team, specifically for a school that is welcoming and embraces its natural setting. The site has a grove of mature oak trees; the design solution protected those, creating a destination for informal outdoor learning. The Oaktree and the environment in which it lives provided design themes for the campus interiors as well. The project shares boundaries with a future city park, creating a true community destination for the area. The Board of Trustees enthusiastically supported the design solution, with one member saying, “Love the rendering, it’s very warm and beautiful…love that it’s unique from our other campuses.”
You can watch the presentation at the YouTube link here, beginning at the 2:18:00 mark. Additionally, the exciting news is discussed in the local press, The Elk Grove Citizen.
Congratulations to the design team on this great milestone! Check back here for more updates on the progress of this new elementary school!
