Lionakis Principals Muhsin Lihony from our Sacramento office and Dean Takasato from our Hawaii office, attended and presented September 18-20 in Austin, Texas at the Healthcare Facilities Symposium. They were also joined in their presentation by St. Francis Hospital Hawaii CEO, Jerry Correa.
Their speaking engagement had the team presenting Lionakis work on the St. Francis Healthcare System in Hawaii. This involved a massive renovation, transformation and development of the Kupuna campus using a few key design strategies:
Development of outdoor spaces
Use of existing design concepts
Honoring the past
Creating flexible use spaces
The learning objectives they incorporated included creating collaborative business partnerships that can help a system’s bottom line in providing care while creating a pathway for positive change; discovering how a combination of care modalities, combined with bringing family into the care team can produce vastly enhanced outcomes for seniors; understanding how adapting to changing demographics can bring about opportunities for reinvigorating an institution and their brand as well as learning how the Aloha spirit is infused into the evolution of senior wellness services, from sick care to healthy lifestyle environments.
The architectural inspiration for this project was reflected in the Lionakis approach of valuing relationships, performance and design. A collaborative job well done!
