On Saturday, August 10, Lionakis gathered their team of softball players at Maidu Park in Roseville, CA to participate in the annual tournament for Sacramento-based Architecture & Engineering firms. Throughout the summer our team competed against other A&E firms in weekly games, leading up to the tournament which marked the end of the 2019 season. Since these games leading up to the tournament do not count towards team standings, the tournament is when teams bring out their best and brightest players to leave with the trophy.

While Lionakis did not walk away with the trophy, they competed in four games total over the course of the tournament. After winning their first match, losing the second, and technically winning a third via forfeit (as the competing team was short players), they moved on to compete in their final game against Engineering Enterprise.

A victory wasn’t all the team was looking for at the tournament, however, as it was just as important for the team to honor the memory of Bill Calhoun, Lionakis’ former  Facilities Manager who we lost unexpectedly, just weeks before the season started.

Bill was a fantastic ball player, competitor and an absolute all-star of an athlete whose presence on the Lionakis team is missed terribly both on and off the field.

To honor Bill, a special “Calhoun” jersey was made to be carried throughout the tournament, celebrating the memory of our favorite baseball player. While we didn’t take home the trophy, we still had a fantastic tournament, with the memories of summers well-spent on the field with our teammates to carry us until next season.
